Digital Collections
These are projects I created, both individually and as part of a team, while working toward my specialization in Digital Libraries at SLIS.
The Mary Bateman Clark Project

Final project for HIST H650 (History and the New Media)
Completed May 2010
- » Omeka CMS: PHP, CSS
- » Adobe CS4 [Photoshop, Dreamweaver]
This was the final project for the History course "History and the New Media" in which we were assigned to create a digital historical resource. I worked in a team with two other students to create this web site for a client who wished to provide an online resource about the history of slavery in Indiana by using her ancestor's story as an illustration. As a group we opted to use Omeka to create the resource. I was not responsible for creating the images in the layout but I did install and configure Omeka as well as add and organize the content provided by the client.

Final project for SLIS S656 (Advanced XML)
Completed May 2010
- » XML, TEI:5, XSLT, DTD, CSS, Apache Cocoon
- » Notepad++,
< oXygen/>
This was the final project for the SLIS course S656 (Information Technology Standardization / Advanced XML) in which I used Apache Cocoon to transform a collection of documents into different formats. I used selected poems written by my paternal grandfather, encoded them in TEI, created XSLT stylesheets to transform them from XML documents to plain text and XHTML, and then created a sitemap to enable transformation generation whenever a link was clicked. The project was written using Notepad++ and < oXygen/>
, and uses XML, XSLT stylesheets, DTDs, and CSS. Unfortunately I don't have access to Cocoon anymore so have no working example to link to at this time. I'm working on this and will hopefully have a functioning version up soon.

Final project for SLIS S652 (Digital Libraries)
Completed December 2009
- » XML, XSLT, DTD, TEI:5, XHTML, CSS
- » Adobe CS4 [Photoshop, Dreamweaver],
< oXygen/>
This project is an XML-based digital collection featuring the artwork of my late grandmother, Shirley Schultz. It was initially undertaken to fulfill an assignment for the Digital Libraries course at SLIS, which was to come up with a collection to digitize, create metadata for, and present on the web. The scans were made in SLIS and then edited with Adobe Photoshop CS4. The structure for the website was hand-coded in XHTML, CSS, and XML using Adobe Dreamweaver CS4. The DTD, XSLT, and TEI markup were done using < oXygen/>
. It was completed in December 2009.
