Web Design
These are websites I created while working toward my degrees at SLIS and beyond.
Irish Studies Alliance
http://homepages.uconn.edu/~isa/
Hired as freelance web designer
Created November 2011
- » PHP, JavaScript, XHTML, CSS
- » Adobe CS4 [Dreamweaver, Photoshop]
I was commissioned by the members of the Irish Studies Alliance at the University of Connecticut to create a website for their organization and so I created a custom PHP template system, with hierarchical menus powered by javascript, that adheres to the University's web standards. I also created documentation and tutorials in the form of a wiki on Google Sites in order to make maintenance of the site as simple as possible, regardless of web design experience.
GLBT Student Support Services Library
http://www.indiana.edu/~glbt/library
Part of job as Library Coordinator
Created and maintained August to December 2010
- » SilverStripe CMS, XHTML, CSS, PHP
- » Adobe CS4 [Dreamweaver, Photoshop], Notepad
My role as Library Coordinator at the GLBT Student Support Services Library involved acting as Webmaster for the Library's website. I transferred the copy from the old, outdated version to a new site that is part of the overall office website using the SilverStripe content management system. I configured the layout and design as far as I had permissions and reorganized the content to be more usable.
Multimedia Catalog Project
http://allison.fredricksons.net/603/xml/tv.xml
Final project for SLIS S603 (Workshop in XML)
Completed June 2009
- » XML, XSLT, DTD, CSS, Javascript
- » Notepad++,
< oXygen/>
This is the final project for the SLIS workshop in XML, in which we had to create an original DTD, XML markup syntax, and XSLT transformative stylesheet to organize a collection with three components. I chose to do multimedia, cataloging a selection of my television shows on DVD, films on DVD, and films on VHS. The website was coded entirely by hand using and Adobe Dreamweaver CS4, with CSS styling and a javascript code to alternate div background colors.
Community of Christ – Forest Hills Official Website
http://www.communityofchrist-foresthills.org
Final project for SLIS S532 (Information Architecture for the Web)
Completed May 2009
- » PHP, XHTML, CSS, Javascript
- » Notepad++, Adobe CS4 [Photoshop]
I created the original version of this web site as the final project for my Information Architecture for the Web course at SLIS. It was hand-coded in XHTML using a PHP template system and included some Javascript features for changing settings. Initially I remained the webmaster for this congregation after my academic project was complete; however, in order to transfer control to a new webmaster I switched the website to the Wordpress content management system because it would be easier for someone with little HTML experience to maintain. I tweaked but did not design the current theme.
Progressive Librarians Guild – Student Chapter — IU
http://ella.slis.indiana.edu/g/plg/index.html
Maintained as Webmaster
Completed March 2009
- » XHTML, CSS
- » Notepad++, Adobe CS4 [Photoshop]
I was the Webmaster of the Progressive Librarians Guild – Student Chapter for the calendar year 2009. During that time I was responsible for maintaining the website as well as the group's social media accounts on Facebook and Twitter. I altered the layout to give it a horizontal rather than vertical navigation menu and added a widget for our Google Calendar but did not make many other changes because of the limitations of the server our group account was on. Changes have been made by other webmasters in the years following my term.
